27 items every dog owner should have
It seems a lot of people are getting puppies right now to bring some excitement and new energy into this very odd year! With a lot of people working from home, many of my friends have been getting puppies thanks to the increase in available time to train and dedicate to a new four-legged family member. As a result, I’ve gotten lots of questions around what items are essential for dog owners.
Today, we’re sharing our list of favorite dog supplies that we’ve added to throughout the years and think everyone should consider getting!
Watch our YouTube video for more details on each item!
The majority of these items can be found on my “For The Dog People” Amazon list where I’ve compiled some of my favorite items for ease. Head’s up, this post may contain affiliate links meaning I get a commission if you decide to make a purchase!
1. Crate
We prefer a collapsible, metal crate like this one from Midwest Homes for Pets. Kokoro and Chibi use a 30-inch crate.
2. Dog bed or mat
Here is our favorite one by MiaCara.

3. Bowls
We got our collapsible travel bowl at a local pet store, but here’s one from Amazon that’s very similar.

4. Water fountain
Perfect for having clean, filtered water all day. Our favorite is the 1/2 Gallon Petsafe Drinkwell Fountain.

5. Lint Rollers
Surprisingly, there are some bad quality lint rollers out there. ScotchBrite lint rollers have consistently done the job for us.

6. Exercise Pen
Many dog owners tend to buy metal exercise pens but I like this one by IRIS that is much sturdier. You can buy additional pieces to adjust the size of the pen!
7. Durable Dog Chews
Our favorite chew toys are Benebones. They come in a variety of shapes and flavors and last around a month!

8. Slip collar or leash
We’re currently using these custom made leashes by our friends at Isartau.
9. Pet Wipes
We typically use EarthBath Grooming Wipes and store them in this sturdy wipe dispenser by OXO.

10. Poop Bags + Dispensers
We like Five Star Pet’s Purse Style dispenser for poop bags.

You can also add a poop bag dispenser to your backyard with this adhesive one by MerriView Hill.

11. Treat Pouch
Our favorite is the Wildebeest Alamo Treat Pouch.

12. Pet Corrector
Very handy for emergency situations if you’re approached by an aggressive dog. The Company of Animals makes these!

13. Travel Crate

We use Petnation’s Port-A-Crate in the back of my Audi Q3. Two 24-inch ones fit both of the dogs and fit in the car nicely!
14. Spot Cleaner
The Bissell 3624 SpotClean Portable Carpet Cleaner is what we currently use, but there may be an updated or newer version out there!
15. Stain & Odor Remover
Nature’s Miracle has a variety of great options!

16. Nail Grinder
We like the Dremel 7300-PT Cordless Nail Grinder for pets.

17. Eye Cleaner
Eye Envy makes a really good set of products for managing tear stains.

18. Cone or e-collar
We use an inflatable e-collar by BENCMATE.

19. Dog Bath
One of my favorite items for small dog owners, hands down! Furesh makes a portable dog bath you can use in your bathroom or in your backyard.

20. High Velocity Pet Dryer
We’re currently using an entry-level version by Shelandy.
21. Grooming Table

We’re using a 36-inch Grooming Table by Master Equipment.
22. Cordless Vacuum
We have both a Dyson V8 Absolute Cordless Vacuum and a Roomba 960 robot vacuum to tackle all of the dog hair.
23. Treat-Dispensing Toys
24. Low-calorie treats
Our favorite training treats are from Charlee Bear. We pretty much don’t give any other treats right now and the dogs are obsessed with them!

25. Natural Edible Chews

Read our blog post on our favorite long-lasting chews for more details on what exactly we prefer to give the pups.
26. Toy Bin
We’re using a wire basket that can hold a lot of toys but also still let the pups see and smell what toys might be hidden at the bottom of the stack.

27. Furbo Dog Camera
Can’t say enough great things about the Furbo Dog Camera! It’s a great way to check in on your pups if you’re not at home and interact with them by throwing treats and speaking through a mic.

Hope this list is helpful for anyone who is going to get a dog or just considering adding some new helpful supplies to your list of dog owner essentials!
