Weekend in Mammoth Lakes
We just spent the last few days 8,000 ft up in the tiny town of Mammoth Lakes!
I had the pleasure of working with Boxed Hotels who invited us to book a stay through their site at a discounted rate. We got a nifty discount off our 2-night stay at the Westin Monache Resort, so we ventured north to explore more of California with the pups.
After a lonely 5 hour drive up from Los Angeles (seriously, there were barely any other cars on the road!) we arrived at the Westin just before the sun started to set. Our room was nice and clean and came with a small kitchenette where we could even cook our own food. This feature was a nice surprise, since you’re basically in a ski town where food options can be limited!
The pups made themselves right at home, attempting to claim our bed as theirs. Well, Kokoro did. Chibi was too short to jump up on her own.
The hotel was walkable to The Village where there was a bbq, beer, and blues festival going on and where quite a few restaurants and bars reside. There were dogs everywhere, seriously. We walked through the festival and had bites of award-winning hot dogs, ribs, and tasty margaritas.
Just a short ten minute drive from our hotel was Convict Lake, a gorgeous area where we rented a canoe and spent a good few hours drifting on the serene water.
We paddled from one side of the lake to the other and hopped out to let the pups go for a swim.
The hot springs near Mammoth Lakes have been on my list for a while, but maybe we’ll have to save that trip for the winter months. If only we could bring the dogs snowboarding with us…
Till then, Mammoth mountain!
