Kitchenware essentials from Material Kitchen
Food is a huge part of my life. Just like Chibi, one of my greatest joys is eating. Whether it’s enjoying a good meal with my friends or trying a new restaurant for date night, I think it’s fair to say that food ranks pretty high up when it comes to what makes me happy.
Cooking, on the other hand, wasn’t always the case. I wasn’t always savvy in the kitchen, nor did I feel like I had the time to learn and understand the basics of making your own food.
Luckily, my boyfriend is the complete opposite, and absolutely LOVES cooking. So much so that when we bought our house, the only room he looked at during the open house was the kitchen. With him as chef and me as sous chef, cooking has slowly climbed its way up on my list of things I like to do, too.
So when we started adding new furnishings to our new home and came across Material Kitchen’s gorgeous set called “The Fundamentals,” we had to try it out.
Consisting of seven pieces of kitchenware that you’ll use pretty much every day, this elegantly designed set includes an 8″ knife, 4″ knife, metal tongs, spoon, spatula, and a wooden spoon. Oh, and a cute wooden base for you to store everything in.
The knives are made of Japanese steel — extremely strong and sharp, while easy to care for. It’s well balanced and feels just right in your hand when working away at veggies or slicing meat. And the grip is nice and comfy; not slippery at all so that you can get a steady hold of the knife while you’re prepping.
The base and knives are both magnetic, so you can simply stick the knives onto the inside of the base.
While knives sometimes take the spotlight when it comes to kitchenware, I was actually most impressed by the design of the tongs. At first glance, this may seem like your average metal tong with a slightly different shape, but it’s got some impressive hidden features.
You can use one hand to lock and unlock the tongs. That’s right… hold the tongs up to lock, or down to unlock. Intuitive and so useful! The head of the tongs also serve as a spoon, so you can baste away with just one utensil – no extra spoon needed.
One of my biggest pet peeves is having too much on my kitchen counters. It doesn’t matter how many tools or devices we need to cook something, if the kitchenware doesn’t look good, it doesn’t sit out on my countertop. Material Kitchen didn’t cut any corners when it came to the design of this set. Not only do the utensils feel great to work with, they get the job done and they get it done well. AND they make your kitchen counter look even better than it did before.
Huge thanks to Material Kitchen team for sending us The Fundamentals to try out. If you’re interested in stepping up your kitchen game with some brand new cookware, head to my Instagram for our giveaway of a brand new set!
