Petcube
A couple weeks ago the kind people from Petcube sent me their sleek and stylish doggy-monitoring camera to try out.
Basically, Petcube is an interactive camera that allows you to monitor your pets. You can…
- Watch, talk and play laser games with your pet through Petcube mobile application anytime, anywhere
- Share access to your Petcube with friends and family, connect with public Petcubes and follow their updates
- Share photos and videos of your furry friends taken with Petcube camera
- Use on iOS and Android devices
The device is pretty neat. We had a few issues connecting at first, possibly due to a slow Wi-Fi connection, but got it working with very little troubleshooting. The device pairs through Wi-Fi to the Petcube app on your iPhone or Android, and you can view the camera through that app.
The laser-pointer feature is great if you have a cat, but my dogs didn’t seem too interested in it for longer than 5 minutes.
The feature that allows you to talk to your pet was pretty handy and is my favorite part of the device, which is a unique feature that I always wish that I had when using other streaming apps to check in on my dogs. I was actually able to call out Chibi’s name when she was standing on our coffee table (something she never does when we’re at home… what a sneaky bad puppy!) and tell her to get off. The dogs seemed pretty freaked out by the sound of a voice and absence of an actual person at home and barked at the sound, but the feature did its job!
There are a few features that I think are lacking and could be improved upon, but overall this is a pretty handy way to simply monitor your pets while you’re not home.
