A taste of royalty at the Westgate Hotel
This weekend we visited one of our favorite neighboring cities, San Diego! The wonderful team at The Westgate Hotel invited us to experience their luxury amenities and we couldn’t have had a more amazing stay during our short time here.
We arrived a few hours before the standard check-in time but were able to get a room with no problem. After being escorted to our 16th floor room, we walked into a gold-clad room that looked like it was fit for royalty.
The view from our room was spectacular. Just past a couple of high rise buildings, you could see the Pacific ocean and the occasional sailboat passing by.
The hotel, although built pretty recently in 1970, has been aged purposefully to give you a feel of a classic European hotel palace. Initially one of the most expensive hotels in the country, The Westgate boasts a huge list of dignitaries and celebrities who have visited, including Billy Joel, Robin Williams, Arnold Schwarznegger, and even British royalty.
As a pianist, it was awesome to see a huge Steinway piano gracing the presence of the main lobby. Turns out it was one of the first five pianos manufactured by Steinway! European furnishings, paintings, and decor fill the hotel to make you feel like you’ve stepped into the past as a member of royalty during your stay at the Westgate.
The detail translated into our personal room as well. Gold colored decor and marble tiles lined our bathroom and shower area.
Shortly after checking in, I was invited to experience a massage at the AquaVie Wellness Club. We checked out the huge fitness facilities and spa at the AquaVie before heading in for an hour of relaxation.
Right after we got back to our room, we received a knock on the door followed by a surprise delivery of afternoon tea delivered straight to our room. I was definitely blown away by the attentiveness and care of the Westgate staff.
Afternoon tea is standard in the hotel lobby at 2:30 PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. We were lucky enough to get a taste of the delicious macarons, pastries, and sweets accompanied by some sparkling lemonade.
I went nuts taking photos of the adorable set up before we gobbled everything down for the perfect end to a relaxing afternoon in our room.
The hotel also has a Champagne Sunday Brunch on its second floor at 10am every Sunday. I’m so bummed that we didn’t have a chance to try it out this time, but next time we’re back, for sure!
Biggest thanks again to the team at The Westgate Hotel for hosting us this weekend and giving me an experience I’ll never forget! If ever you’re looking for a relaxing and pampered weekend around San Diego, this is definitely one of the places to be.
