Dogs are creatures of routine. Kokoro and Chibi love waking up at the same time every day, getting the same breakfast, going on the same walk, and knowing what’s supposed to come next in their day.
We’ve shared some tips in the past for dealing with separation anxiety in dogs like Chibi. But some bigger changes to routine like travel, having a lot of people over, or being alone for more than usual can be harder on the pups.
We always like to keep some Zylkene® handy in case of bigger life changes for the pups. We’ve shared in the past how we use it to reduce stress during flights on occasion. Chibi is a relatively anxious dog so having this balanced behavior supplement is key to keeping her as comfy as possible.
Zylkene® capsules can be administered orally as a single dose, whole or opened at meal time. The easiest way for us is to pop it in a treat pocket and give it to the pups. They’re also tasty enough that you can open them up and sprinkle them onto your pup’s food.
We usually start administering it 1-2 days before a planned event or change in environment, but some pets may need earlier administration (5-7 days ahead of the change).
With the holidays coming up, we’re keen on using Zylkene® to help the pups adjust to trick-or-treaters constantly ringing our doorbell, having family (and their dogs) over at our place for Thanksgiving, and longer road trips and travel plans to finish out the holidays.
The holidays can be both event-filled and stressful. If your pup struggles with adjusting to the hustle and bustle of the festivities, we’d definitely recommend asking your vet if Zylkene® is a good option for your pup.
