Preparing for a weekend in Joshua Tree

Happy hump day! We’re halfway through the week, and my two little sidekicks and I are just two days away from heading out to Joshua Tree for a weekend getaway at the Encanto Desert Land Cabin.

Joshua Tree has been on my list of places to visit ever since we moved to Los Angeles just a little over a year ago. I’m definitely an ocean person, so the remote and dry nature of the desert will definitely be a new experience for me (and the pups!).

The closest we’ve come to a roadtrip like this was last year when we visited the Salton Sea, Imperial Sand Dunes, and Salvation Mountain. Joshua Tree looks to be a little pricklier than these spots, but we’re eager to explore more of the natural landscape of Southern California!

Most people camp at one of the campgrounds in Joshua Tree National Park, but our friends at Glamping with Pets actually invited us to stay at one of their pet-friendly accomodations! We’re going to be at this cute little cabin in Twentynine Palms, the Encanto Desert Land Cabin:

Glamping with Pets launched just last year and is a portal for nature-based, pet-friendly places to stay all over the world. The site has over 3,500 options and is a sister portal to Glamping Hub. We found tons of pet-friendly camping options when we were browsing through – all with showers and a roof over your head :)

We’ve started researching and planning what we’re going to be bringing along. Hopefully the below lists are helpful if you’re planning on a trip to Joshua Tree yourself!

FOR THE HUMANS

    • Food & Snacks – more than you think you’ll need!
    • Water & Water bottles
    • Chargers for the electronics
    • Camera for photos
    • Sun protection (hat, sunblock, sunglasses)
    • Backpack/daypack
    • Flashlight
    • Clothes – dress in layers! It will be scorching hot during the day but freezing at night.
    • Bandana – for dust protection. We learned this the hard way at Coachella a few weeks ago.
    • Toiletries
    • First Aid Kit

FOR THE DOGS

We have a couple links saved of places to explore, knowing that dogs must be leashed in Joshua Tree National Park and there are limitations to where we can bring them in the park. Stay tuned over the next few days to read more about our pet-friendly weekend in the desert!
